From Family Business to Business Family
Safi Rajab founded DUBIMED in Dubai in 2016. It now supplies between 50 and 60 percent of the largest clinics and medical centres in the UAE, works across four GCC markets, and holds exclusive distribution for more than twenty international brands, among them Sofwave, Galderma, Crown Aesthetics, CLASSYS, mesoestetic, Teoxane, Revance and GE HealthCare. Growth has averaged around 35% a year.
He is the third generation of a medical technology family. His father, Eng. Mohammed Rajab, started the business in Syria in 1980 with four engineers. Safi joined in 2001, built a sister company from nothing, and was running a hundred person operation by 2012 before he moved to the UAE. What he built in Dubai is his own.
He studied computer engineering at the State Engineering University of Armenia and graduated in 2002. It shows in how he sells. He came into medical equipment able to read a specification and hold his own with an application specialist, rather than recite a brochure.
Aesthetics came later. His first decade was hospital equipment: ultrasound, endoscopy, X-ray and CT, surgical lasers, stone management, intensive care and the operating room. He trained with Samsung, Philips, ESAOTE, Laborie and TEKNO, won national tenders for the Syrian Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defence, and put the first full digital fluoroscopy and digital mammography systems into the country. By 2012 he was managing director of a hundred person group turning over nine million dollars.
He has run a hundred person group and built a twenty person one from nothing, so he knows what a sales team needs and what it does not. Teams get real decisions to make and are expected to make them. Look after the doctors and your own people, and the numbers follow.
Aesthetics is where the market is today. Longevity is where he thinks it ends up. Regenerative medicine sits between the two, and DUBIMED is being pointed at it on purpose. His bet is that the clinics who understand the science early will set the standard everyone else has to meet.
